Burmaster to begin
as Nicolet President July 7
Elizabeth (Libby) Burmaster will begin her duties as president of Nicolet College Tuesday, July 7, succeeding Adrian Lorbetske, who recently retired from the position.
"I'm honored and excited to serve as Nicolet president," Burmaster said. "Nicolet has a long history of being a vital resource to the people and communities in the Northwoods and I look forward to building on that tradition."
Burmaster's first days at Nicolet will be spent with students, staff and community leaders on both the Lake Julia and Lakeland campuses. Her first meeting Tuesday will be with Nicolet Student Government representatives. Later in the week she will meet with the county board chairs and tribal government leaders in the Nicolet district.
Burmaster comes to Nicolet after serving eight years as State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In that role she oversaw all public K-12 school districts in the state and served as a member of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, the Educational Communications Board, and the Governor's Council on Workforce Investment.
In all, she has 34 years of experience in education, including extensive experience as a K-12 teacher and principal at every level - elementary, middle and for nearly a decade as the principal of Madison West High School.
Her bachelor's and master's degrees are from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and she is the recipient of honorary doctorates from Beloit College and Edgewood College.
Libby is married to John Burmaster and they have three adult children and two grandsons.
Annually about 2,000 students take credit classes at Nicolet and an estimated 10,000 people utilize some aspect of the college. This includes enrolling in Community Education or Outdoor Adventure Series courses, attending theater events in the Nicolet Live! Arts and Speakers Series, or visiting the Nicolet College Library or Art Gallery.
The Nicolet District includes all of Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties and portions of Lincoln, Langlade and Iron counties.
