Hundreds gather at Nicolet
for Burmaster investiture
More than 200 people welcomed Elizabeth Burmaster as the fifth president of Nicolet College during the recent investiture ceremony on the college’s Rhinelander campus.
“It’s exciting to see the level of support people have for Nicolet, recognizing how vital Nicolet is in helping Northwoods students and communities prosper and reach their full potential,” Burmaster said.
During the ceremony Burmaster was presented with the intricate and hand-crafted Native American beaded stole that, as is custom, is passed on from president to president at Nicolet.
In addressing the audience, Burmaster reflected on the accomplishments of the college’s namesake, 17th Century French explorer and pioneer Jean Nicolet who was one of the first Europeans to explore the region. “He was a man who believed that no exploration was too daring if you could communicate with people and build relationships,” she said. “Today, Nicolet College is again a pioneer as we come together as a college community intent on strengthening northern Wisconsin through access to quality education.”
After the half-hour ceremony community members took part in a celebration that included entertainment by four different local musical acts, horse-drawn wagon rides around the Nicolet campus, a variety of fresh pies prepared by Nicolet Culinary Arts Students along with refreshments, and the Green Bay Packers playing on the big screen in the Nicolet Theatre.
