Nicolet College - Explore IT careers at Open House Wednesday

Explore computer careers
at IT Open House Wednesday

The Information Technology Program at Nicolet College will hold an Open House Wednesday, Nov. 4, to talk to prospective students about the many different careers in the computer field.

The event will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Tamarack Center Room 102 on the Rhinelander campus.

“This will be a great way for anyone considering a career in the computer field to learn more about it,” said Dick Scuglik, Nicolet IT instructor. “We’ll have staff on hand to talk about what the future job market looks like, what it takes to prepare for those jobs, as well as financial aid and scholarship information.”

The event will include demonstrations in the college’s new Home Technology Integration Lab. Nicolet now offers a one-year certificate in this emerging field that combines a number of different technologies into a single computer-based network. The network controls such systems as home security, heating, cooling, appliances, and telecommunications.

The college offers two-year associate degrees for Web Analyst/Programmer, and Computer Support Specialist along with numerous different short-term specialty certificates that can be earned in as little as one semester. Certificates include Database Management, Desktop Support Technician, Web Programming and Development, Website Development and Support, and the Cisco Certified Network Associate Certificate. Certificate credits can be applied to an associate degree if students wish to continue their college educations.

People attending the open house will receive a coupon that waives the college’s traditional $30 application fee. They’ll also get the chance to enter a drawing to win a free MP3 player.

Refreshments will be served at this free event.
