Nicolet's Johnson Van den Elzen honored with
life membership in national business association

Nicolet College Administrative Assistant Instructor Jolene Johnson Van den Elzen was recently honored with the Life Membership Award from the National Business Professionals of America.

Jolene JohnsonJohnson Van den Elzen's "leadership and professionalism have been an inspiration to our organization as well as to the business and education communities," the association wrote in presenting the honor.

Johnson Van den Elzen has been teaching future business professionals for more than 25 years, first at the high school level, then at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, and for the past 15 years at Nicolet.

All during that time she has served as the faculty advisor to student groups involved in BPA activities at the local, state and national levels.

She's also served on numerous state and national BPA committees, developing testing materials and administering the tests.

"My philosophy has always been that teaching involves a lot more than what goes on in the classroom," Johnson Van den Elzen said.

"Students get a great deal of benefit from being involved in a wide variety of real-world activities. The Business Professionals of America facilitates that added level of learning in a very concrete way."
