Nicolet College - Short-term weatherization training to start in August
Short-term weatherization training
to start in August at Nicolet College
Nicolet College is launching weatherization training in early August to give workers the skills necessary to make new and existing homes more energy efficient.
"We're expecting the need for workers with weatherization skills to increase as federal stimulus money makes its way to the state," said Nicolet President Elizabeth Burmaster. "This initiative will help get people back to work and help reduce energy demands in our state and nation."
The four-day training will run from Monday, Aug. 3, to Thursday, Aug. 6, on Nicolet's Rhinelander campus. Classes will include Basic Carpentry Math, New Construction Weatherization, and Retrofit/Existing Construction Weatherization. Classes will run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
A federal tax credit for homeowners who weatherize is also expected to increase demand for these services, and therefore demand for workers with weatherization skills.
President Barack Obama has designated $5 billion from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act stimulus funding for weatherization. It's estimated Wisconsin will get $144.5 million of this to weatherize Wisconsin homes.
