Nicolet College - Weekend welding program starts Sept. 11
Weekend welding program
starts Sept. 18 at Nicolet College
Nicolet College is offering a weekend welding program that will give individuals the chance to earn a welding technical diploma in four months of concentrated training.
“The classes are designed specifically for people who want a career in welding but cannot make it to campus during traditional times,” said Rom Skallerud, Nicolet dean of instruction. “There is high demand for professional welders and this new offering will provide career opportunities for anyone just entering the workforce, looking to change careers, or retrain for a new career after experiencing a layoff.”
The concentrated classes will run from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Classes start Sept. 18 and run through Jan. 24 with breaks during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays.
In 2008, welding graduates with a one-year diploma from a Wisconsin technical college reported earning an average starting wage of $15.68 an hour and an average annual salary of $35,097.
Classes will include Applied Technical Math, Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Customer Relations on Fridays; Gas Metal Arc/Flux Welding on Saturdays and Sundays; and Metallurgy Fundamentals along with Oxyfuel and Arc Cutting Process also on Sundays.
Financial aid is available.
