hold diabetes fund raiser Nov. 17

Marketing students at Nicolet College are holding a fund raising event for the American Diabetes Association which will include diabetes-friendly food prepared by Nicolet Culinary Arts students.
The event, American Diabetes Awareness Day, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Learning Resources Center on the Rhinelander campus.
Students in the college’s Principles of Marketing class selected the fund raiser as part of the service learning component of the curriculum. “We consider ourselves a class with a cause,” said Christine Peterson, a marketing student at Nicolet.
With a $10 donation individuals will receive a commemorative Diabetes Awareness Day t-shirt to wear Nov. 17, the day of the event. Health care professionals will be on hand to discuss ways to prevent and manage diabetes.
“Service learning projects such as this are an important part of a Nicolet education,” said Karen Barr, Nicolet marketing instructor. “It combines classroom learning with a very worthy community cause.”
