Vilas County Sheriff’s Department honored with
Foundation Friends and Partners Award

Friends and Partners Award

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department was recently honored with the 2010 Nicolet College Foundation Friends and Partners Award for its work with the college in training correctional officers through the Jail Academy.

For the past three years, the department has partnered with the college to hold the four-week academy, providing use of its jail, instructors, training materials and equipment.

“By partnering with the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department, Nicolet has been able to offer the training within the district for the first time,” said Paul Knuth, Foundation president, in announcing the honor. “This is of great benefit to students, who no longer have to travel out of their district and be away from their families for extended periods. The department has always made Nicolet and our students feel like welcomed guests.”

Nicolet College Criminal Justice Instructor Phil Schmidt nominated the department for the honor. Vilas County Jail Administrator Tim Evenson accepted the award at a recent meeting of the Nicolet College Board of Trustees.
