Imagination Conversation at Nicolet looks
to shape future of rural Wisconsin

Creating a vision of how healthy and sustainable rural communities in Wisconsin might look in the future will be the focus of the upcoming state-wide Imagination Conversation event July 27 and 28 at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.

“The central idea is to use imagination to spur conversations to create a vision for rural Wisconsin,” said Nicolet College President Elizabeth Burmaster. “That vision will then be shared at a national summit and used to help shape public policy for sustainable rural communities.”

The event will start at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, with the opening reception of the Northern National Art Competition in the Learning Resources Center on the Rhinelander campus. The conference will follow the next day, Wednesday, July 28, with registration and continental breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and presentations and conversations from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a wrap-up, all in Nicolet’s Learning Resources Center.

The format for the day will include the stories of three successful rural Wisconsin communities. Participants from across the state will then convene after each story to model a sustainable and successful rural community.

“The intent is to bring together a broad mix of people from the arts, business, education, government and other community leaders to help shape the future of rural Wisconsin,” Burmaster added.

Wisconsin’s Imagination Conversation is part of a national project sponsored by the Lincoln Center Institute in New York City. Fifty such conversations are occurring around the country, one in every state. A team from the Wisconsin conference will then take the ideas generated at Nicolet to America’s Imagination Summit at the Lincoln Center in 2011.

The conversation at Nicolet is sponsored by the college, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Wisconsin School Music Association, and the School of the Arts in Rhinelander.

Cost to participate in the Imagination Conversation at Nicolet is $50. To register and to get more information, visit
