The Nicolet Players theater troupe will hold auditions March 7 and 8 for the upcoming production of The Trip to Bountiful.
The Broadway and movie classic set in 1953 Texas tells the story of the elderly Carrie Watts, who dreams endlessly of visiting her childhood home one last time before it’s too late. But, before she embarks on a sentimental journey home, she must find a way to escape the suffocating supervision of an over-bearing daughter-in-law and under-serving son.
Both heartbreaking and uplifting, this haunting American classic is an unforgettable meditation on the idea of home and its power to sustain us.
“Simply put, it’s the story of a woman who wants to go home,” said Jim Nuttall, Nicolet College Theatre director. “The plot is relatively simple, but it’s populated with people we all recognize - our mothers, our children, the fellow running the bus station down the street. Horton Foote writes about simple characters, but he makes them incredibly three-dimensional. Actors love to play his roles.”
Auditions will take place each night March 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre and are open to everyone. There will be roles for three to four women and four to five men, plus non-speaking extras.
“No previous acting experience is necessary and you do not need to be a Nicolet student,” said Nuttall. He added that no preparation for auditions is necessary, though it helps to have read the script, which is available for a three-day checkout from the Nicolet College Library.
Public performances take place the first two weekends of May.
