Four free Creative Arts Series
events coming to Nicolet College

Posted Monday, March 21, 2011

The Nicolet College Creative Arts Series will feature four free events in coming weeks. They include a travelogue to Tanzania; presentations on how to be an outdoor writer and another on natural resources management; and an art exhibit showcasing the best works by Nicolet College art and graphic design students. Details of each event are as follows:

World Travel - Tanzania with Kevin Jenkins

Tuesday, March 29
7:30 p.m.
Nicolet College Theatre

Rhinelander native Kevin Jenkins visited the complex world of East Africa, where the expression hakuna matata (Swahili for “don’t worry”) covers everything from dangerous border crossings, impossible roads, a flat tire, banditry to government corruption. Jenkins experienced these adventures and more while on a Rotarian mission to build a village high school. He’ll talk about the Tanzanians he worked with, the orphaned children who captivated his heart, and the many challenges East Africans face in getting education, nutrition, good jobs, access to health care and adequate housing. A slideshow gives the flavor of the countryside and its inhabitants.

Library Series - Outdoor Writer Larry Brown
Thursday, March 31
7 p.m.
Boulder Junction Library

Before moving to northern Wisconsin, Larry Brown was a CIA operations officer in Washington, D.C., and North Africa. But his diverse background also includes 33 years of writing for outdoor magazines and books on pheasant and bird hunting. Brown covers the basics of writing and selling freelance articles, and answers your questions during this presentation.

Library Series - Use Conflicts in Natural Resource Management: A Wisconsin River Case Study
Tuesday, April 5
5:30 p.m.
Nicolet College Library Lounge

During his 32-year career with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Bob Martini was in charge of restoring and protecting the state’s rivers. He narrates the journey of the Wisconsin River, “the Hardest Working River in America,” from its “Bad Old Days” of exploitation to its clean-up. Co-sponsored by the Nicolet College Sustainability Committee.
