Up against students from seven other colleges, Nicolet College Land Surveying students recently took home three of the six competitive scholarships recently awarded by the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors (WLSL).
Nicolet students David Decker, Alex Everson and Ethan Remus each received a $2,100 WSLS scholarship.
A total of 40 students competed for the scholarships, representing technical colleges in Milwaukee, Madison, Kenosha, and Green Bay along with students from Michigan Tech and Ferris State University in Michigan, and St Cloud State in Minnesota.
“All three are excellent students and it’s great to see them recognized and honored like this by the state’s professional land surveying organization,” said Devon VandenHeuvel, Nicolet Land Surveying instructor.
This was the third time in recent years that three of the six association scholarships went to Nicolet students.
Students were required to submit their official academic record and prepare a three- to five-page paper outlining their personal, educational and land surveying related goals. A committee of 14 professional land surveyors then selected the six recipients.
The scholarships were awarded at the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors recent Annual Institute in Wisconsin Dells. The three-day event attracted more than 900 land surveyors from throughout the state and offers multiple sessions covering a variety of land surveying topics.
