Dec. 21, 2011

The Nicolet College Foundation received a $3,000 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation to purchase equipment to help create a state-of-the-art environmental science learning laboratory.

Plum Creek DonationThe donation purchased three new microscopes to benefit both Nicolet College students and high school students who participate in the pre-college program by providing them with greater access to current science technology, according to Heather Schallock, executive director of the Nicolet College Foundation. The laboratory will assist in teaching areas of environmental science including aquatic invasive species.

"An updated lab will provide our students with an opportunity to experience environmental studies with improved technology and current information," said Schallock. "Plum Creek's grant is providing our students with resources and equipment that will help shape their educational experience."

The Nicolet College Foundation is the part of Nicolet College that provides scholarships and supports programs for students, including one for local, at-risk high school students. This program encourages students to consider post-secondary education and teaches students about environmental sciences through hands-on projects involving technology and natural resources.

"The Plum Creek Foundation prides itself on community involvement," said Mark Sherman, senior resource manager for the Plum Creek Lake States Region. "It's important to us and our company to make a positive impact in the places we live, work and do business."

The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves.
