Wednesday, April 6, will be a busy day on the Nicolet campus as the college will hold a College Visit Day in the morning and then an Open House for the Information Technology program later in the afternoon.

Both events are free and open to the public.

College Visit Day

Campus TourProspective students thinking about attending Nicolet can learn more about the college at the upcoming College Visit Day from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“While the event will cater to high school juniors and seniors thinking about enrolling at Nicolet, anyone is welcome to attend,” said Kelly Anunson, Nicolet admissions representative.

Prospective students will learn how college is different than high school, what a typical day at college is like, how to apply for scholarships and financial aid, what academic programs are available, how to work through the admissions process, and get a tour of the campus.

Participants will also select an academic program that is of interest to them and then spend half an hour in those labs and classrooms talking with instructors and students to learn more about their area of interest.

Those attending will also receive a voucher that waives the college’s admission fee.

The College Visit Day will start in the Nicolet College Theatre located in the Learning Resources Center.

To register for this free event, contact Anunson at (715) 365-4407 or 1-800-544-3039, ext, 4407, or by email at kanunson@nicoletcollege.edu. Parents are also encouraged to attend. Interested individuals can also learn more about the college by visiting the Nicolet website at www.nicoletcollege.edu.

The Rhinelander campus is located one mile south of the city just off of Hwy. G.

IT Open House

ITThe Visit Day will be followed by an Open House in the Information Technology program from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Tamarack Center room 102.

“This will be a great way for anyone considering a career in the computer field to learn more about it,” said Dick Scuglik, Nicolet IT instructor. “We’ll have staff on hand to talk about what the future job market looks like, what it takes to prepare for those jobs, as well as financial aid and scholarship information.”

The college offers two-year associate degrees for Web Analyst/Programmer, and Computer Support Specialist along with numerous different short-term specialty certificates that can sometimes be earned in as little as one semester. Certificates include Database Management, Desktop Support Technician, Web Programming and Development, Website Development and Support, and the Cisco Certified Network Associate Certificate. Certificate credits can be applied to an associate degree if students wish to continue their college educations.

The event will also include demonstrations in the college’s Home Technology Integration Lab. Nicolet offers a one-year certificate in this emerging field that combines a number of different technologies into a single computer-based network. The network controls such systems as home security, heating, cooling, appliances, and telecommunications.

People attending the open house will receive a coupon that waives the college’s application fee. They’ll also get the chance to enter a drawing to win a free MP3 player.

Refreshments will be served at this free event.
