Nicolet Players to hold
auditions for Harvey March 6 and 7
Monday, Feb. 20, 2012
It's not too often the opportunity comes along to play the part of a rather eccentric gentleman whose imaginary friend just so happens to be a six-foot rabbit who has the power to stop time.
But that exact role, along with many others, will be up for grabs when the Nicolet Players hold auditions for the upcoming play Harvey at 7 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6 and 7.
Ever since its 1944 Broadway debut, this beloved comedy has won numerous awards and delighted audiences of all ages with its story about Harvey, the six-foot imaginary rabbit friend of mild-mannered and unconventional Elwood P. Dowd. When Elwood introduces Harvey at a party, his society-obsessed sister Veta decides to commit her brother to a sanitarium so he won't ruin her daughter's chances to marry upward. But the doctors think Veta, who confesses to having seen Harvey, is bonkers and commit her instead. Amid all the laughs, this classic screwball comedy packages a big heart and more than a few enduring truths.
There are roles for six men and six women, ages 20 to 70; parts vary from a few pages to much of the play. Performances take place the first two weekends of May.
Auditions both nights will be held in the Nicolet College Theatre located in the Learning Resources Center on the Rhinelander campus.
As always, everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a student at Nicolet or have any previous experience in acting to be in the cast. No preparation for auditions is necessary, though it helps to have read the script. Scripts are available for a three-day checkout from the Nicolet library in the Learning Resources Center.
Potential cast members can get more information about the play and learn how auditions are run by contacting Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall at (715) 365-4476, or sending him an email at email@example.com.
